All five of us in the group are from China where there is only one standard official language, which is Chinese. This is why we were so surprised to see a bilingual policy in Wales, where for the first time we see two languages - English and Welsh - in every corner of our lives. For example, on posters around campus, on roadside signs, and even every email from the school office is half English and half Welsh.

But we also found that after we came to live and study in Aberystwyth it seemed almost impossible to 'hear' Welsh except by 'seeing' it. So it was with this curiosity that we embarked on this study of the Welsh language.
